Apologies that I have been remarkedly quiet these past 2 weeks. Moving house, volunteer training, my son unexpectedly undergoing surgery, and an intense workload have all competed for my attention. To be honest it’s been a hefty juggling act and I am pretty tired, fortunately things are now calming down a little.
On top of all these pressures I haven’t had connectivity. My new home is in Norfolk and it turns out to be the worst county I’ve experienced for mobile signal, which was compounded when the broadband connection was delayed to my new house, making me incommunicado!!
I don’t think I appreciated how much I rely on internet connectivity for everything I do! Working remotely is normally a breeze as all our systems are cloud based, and I spend a lot of time sending messages and emails, on the phone, or in virtual meetings.

These past days I have had to climb up to the one second floor room of the house to eke out a 3g signal which may or may not be sufficient to download an email!!! For anything bigger I had to drive towards Norwich or hang out at my sister’s house.
With limited access to internet or phone, it removed the spontaneity of my normal workflow, where I’d fire messages and emails off without a care in the world. Actually, it took me back to the late 1990’s/early 2000’s in rural Yorkshire, where we’d go to the pub and everybody would line their mobiles along the windowsills in the hope of attracting a signal – I’m surprised nobody’s phone was ever stolen 🤣📱
Thankfully, broadband is now operational and I can try and find my sanity – and workflow – again! I’ve been so conflicted about moving such a distance from the practice (260 miles), and it was as though fate was saying, “you fool!”
Now, back online, I think I am really going to enjoy this new life: a fresh start, a fabulous family support network who love dog sitting duties, a gorgeous home working environment, and regular trips up North where I get to indulge in hours of podcasts as I bimble along the A1, then spend quality time with the team 🩶💛
